What are my Gifts

1/24/2012
1 Corinthians 12:4- “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same spirit.”

Interpretation: The Holy Spirit gives us different kinds of gifts, but scripture says that they all come from the same spirit. It goes on to say in verse 6 that “there are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” I think that this is important because it takes away from any opportunity man would have to take credit for any of the gifts and it takes away any right to boast that one gift is better than another. There are gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, speaking in tongues, leadership, and teaching. These spiritual gifts, also called grace gifts (derived from the Greek word “charis” or, “charismata”) are just that, given to us by the grace of God. So whether someone is gifted with wisdom or healing, prophecy or knowledge, the same Spirit gives them all to us, so they are all equal and also equally bring glory to God. Paul proceeds to explain the body of Christ and how everyone plays a different role in the body, each equally important. In verse 26 he says, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” Each of these gifts are given by the same God because of his grace and love for us. Each is vital to the body of Christ, and when they are used properly, with the understanding of their importance, God gets the glory he deserves.

Application: I don’t know what my spiritual gifts are. I am going to pray to ask God to reveal them to me.
