1 Corinthians 12:7- “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

Interpretation: The Holy Spirit gives each believer gifts for the purpose of building up the church. Paul says that they are each given for the common good. In verse 11 it says, “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.” So God is giving us gifts as he sees fit for edifying the body and building the kingdom, and they are given to us for the common good. I like how everyone has different gifts, and how when used correctly there could be such a harmony in the body of Christ. This further encourages me to be joyful of the gifts of my brothers and sisters and helps deteriorates any jealousy in my heart. God knows what is best, and He gives his children gifts to work for the common good of bringing himself glory. Further on in 1 Corinthians 12:14 Paul says, “Now the body is not made up of one part but many.” And in verse 12:19-20 Paul writes, “If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.” It is easy to look at the different gifts of the other people around you, and someone who even may have the same gift but a sharper sense of how to use it in the Spirit, and get discouraged. These scriptures, however, show clearly that we all make up the body of Christ and play different but equally important roles, and God gives us these roles according to the common good of the body!

Application: We will take the gifts of the Spirit test tonight, when I find out what mine are I am going to pray to ask God to help me to refine them to be used for the common good and thank him for them.
